HFCL Infotel Limited, the company that pioneered the CDMA technology in Panjab, shall be investing Rs.20 crores more in the next one year to take the mobile service to the rural Punjab.
The investment shall be used to reach out to hitherto un-serviced segments in the hinterland of Panjab for which 100-150 BTS (towers) shall be put up shortly, said Mr. G.D. Singh, Chief Operating Officer of HFCL.
Our objective is to extend the reach of Ping mobile service to 5000 villages, he said.
Already Ping mobile service has received the mandate of the masses by acquiring 1 lakh subscribers in just 80 days since its launch on 21st September 2007, by reaching out to 270 towns and 2050 villages of Punjab, and Chandigarh through a state-wide distribution network of 8,000 retail outlets.
The fundamental truth in achieving success despite being the 7th player in the mobile segment in the Panjab circle had been our endeavour to offer a totally customer-friendly value-for-money package of 1 paise per second pulse rate, a feature-rich color mobile handset for just Rs.999, and many other value additions, said Mr. G.D. Singh.
HFCL which has already received licence for GSM mobile service for Panjab circle is waiting for the decision on the remaining 20 circles for which the application is pending with the government, Mr. G.D. Singh informed.
HFCL Infotel also has approximately 70,000 Connect mobile subscribers, over 2.50 lakh landline subscribers with 40,000 DSL subscribers.
